Camera that lets you shoot first, focus later

Lytro Camera - It’s different from most cameras because light rays are captured instead of flat images, which allows you to change the focus of the image after it’s already been taken.

Picture taking is instantaneous due to lack of a focus monitor and shutter - that means, the moment you want to capture is the only one you’ll get - with no shutter lag.

The camera is a 3D rectangle with an LCD touchscreen display on one end and an 8 x f/2 lens on the other. The rest of it is just point, zoom and shoot.

The camera comes in 8 GB and 16 GB, their photo storage capacity being 350 to 750, respectively. Photos can also be stored on Lytro’s servers for free.

The camera is now available only in US that too on pre ordering direct from the manufacturer. Price starts at Rs.20000 for a camera with 8GB memory.

Our comments: No doubt, this is a revelutionary camera. At present we cannot tell anything more about its future. The current model may be ideal for casual users. The official website doesnt tell anything about depth and shutter speed controls a serious amateur photographer will need. Professional photographers' needs are one more. They are concerned about the lens aberrations and lack of manual controls.

Reviews of this camera has not started coming from well accepted professional sources. So we cannot forecast its future. If only the company lasts without getting gobbled up any giant camera maker.
